One of the hardest things you have to face as a pet owner is when your dog or cat gets injured or falls sick and needs to have surgery. At South Eastern Animal Hospital we know that at times like these your anxiety levels soar and there are many questions or concerns you may have.
We’ve taken some time to compile a list of the most commonly asked questions about pet surgical treatments and have answered them here. We hope you find the following information helpful in easing some of the anxieties you’re feeling.
Question 1 What types of pet surgical treatments are available at your typical Melbourne veterinary hospital?
At our animal clinic in Clayton we have a highly trained and well-experienced team on staff to perform a wide range of surgical procedures such as the following:
Question 2 How safe is anaesthesia for my pet?
Before a procedure can be performed or anaesthetic administered, our expert team will conduct a comprehensive exam on your pet to ensure that they can cope with the stresses of an operation. Be assured that anaesthesia used today is both safe and reliable for effective use on animals.
Question 3 Will my pet experience pain?
As with any type of surgical procedure there is generally some degree of pain involved. Our vets will do everything possible to reduce the level of pain and discomfort your pet experiences including administering injection pain medications.
Question 4 Will my pet need stitches?
This depends on the surgical treatment involved. Usually for minor procedures absorbable stiches are used that will dissolve on their own. Surgical procedures such as removing tumours may need skin staples or stitches that are removed between 10 and 14 days after treatment.
It is important that you keep a close eye on your pet if it has undergone a surgical treatment and talk to your Melbourne vet about any concerns you may have. For a positive stress-free pet surgical experience, let South Eastern Animal Hospital take the best care of your beloved pet.
